Schools campaign to stop removals

Campaigners are urging teachers and students to sign a
declaration protesting about the removal of children and young
people whose asylum applications have failed.

Campaigns were recently mounted against the removal of school
children in Portsmouth, Canterbury and Reading.

Drawn up by teachers, students and trade unionists, the declaration
expresses concern about the detrimental effects of removal on a
child’s health and well-being.

It also commits those working in education to use “whatever legal
means are available to persuade the Home Office to revoke any order
of deportation affecting any child or young person in our
school/college”.
