Book review: The Knowledge

The Knowledge:  How to get the information on you need
out of your computer and information systems

Mike Gatehouse, June Statham and Harriet Ward, University of
London

ISBN 0854737073, £7.95

STAR RATING 4/5

The benefit of any electronic information system is not how easy it
is to put in the information, but the quality and versatility of
the information it gives back. That is, the information should be
useful for, and used by staff at all levels – not just for trotting
out the usual standard performance indicators, writes Karen
Mayo.

This book describes ways to improve the information retrieved from
computers. It has an easy-to-read layout and is jargon-free, which
is very helpful for those of us not technically minded. It gives
practical suggestions for considering the type of information that
can be retrieved and how this can be managed.

Those responsible for information management, and senior managers
would find the tools this book describes useful when considering
changes and improvements to their information systems.
