Mental health act tribunal warning

Barriers to implementing mental health legislation in Scotland have
yet to be tackled just five months before the new law comes in, a
social work head has claimed.

Alex Davidson, head of adult services at South Lanarkshire Council,
warned that the Scottish executive had not resolved outstanding
concerns about the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act
2003.

More than 50 social workers have been appointed to sit on mental
health tribunals but Davidson said issues, such as whether they
will be entitled to paid leave and the impact on councils, had not
been addressed.
