Councillor opens his doors to homeless

A councillor is tackling his area’s housing shortage by renting his
own properties to homeless people.

Paul Marfleet, cabinet member for finance and personnel at
Denbighshire Council in Wales, said he was just trying to do a
small bit to help.

Marfleet, the independent councillor for
Llanrhaeadr-Yng-Nghinmeirch, has transferred the tenancies of two
of his properties to the council so they can be used for people in
need. He also called on other landlords to help.

He said: “There must be a lot of people in the private sector who
don’t realise the scale of homelessness. I have had a pretty
horrific experience in the private sector and so far I haven’t had
any problems with any of my council tenants.”
