Pre-school children badly traumatised

Pre-school children badly traumatised Half of all pre-school
children who are exposed to domestic violence suffer post-traumatic
stress disorder, research has found.

The first UK study into the effect of domestic violence on
under-fives uncovers significant risk of several trauma symptoms,
including behavioural difficulties and delayed speech and language
development.

Nearly a quarter of mothers surveyed said their children had
intervened during episodes of violence, putting themselves at
greater risk, according to the study by domestic violence charity
Refuge.
