Social work left trailing in dream jobs survey

A career in the public sector is still sought after – as long as it
isn’t in social work, a survey has found.

Popular childhood dream jobs – doctor, nurse and teacher – are
three of the top four most desired occupations but social work
fails to get a mention.

Other findings do offer encouraging signs to the social work
sector. Two-thirds of women and more than half of men said they
would be prepared to change their career if financial help were
available. And three-quarters of the respondents said they would
prioritise being happy at work over a large pay packet.

The survey of 2,000 employees was carried out by Creative and
Cultural Skills, an arts skills council.
