Guaranteed job awaits Edinburgh’s trainees

Edinburgh Council’s health and social care department will train 15
people over the next 18 months to work in care homes for older
people.

Trainees will receive a £6,000 bursary, six months’ full-time
placement and a guaranteed permanent post after completing the
course.

The first year will include two days a week in a care home and
three days in college.

The council says many of the 50 applicants for places were from
people who would not have previously considered working in the
sector. They will help tackle the sector’s workforce
shortage.

The trainees start the scheme, which has been developed with
Stevenson College in Edinburgh, next week.
