Ecstasy tablets sold for 50p

Ecstasy pills can be bought for 50p in Portsmouth it emerged
today, writes Clare Jerrom.

A DrugScope survey found that the cheapest pill was half the
cost of last year’s lowest price which was £1 for a
tablet in Birmingham.

Drug dealers are also selling two for one heroin and crack
“party packs” in a bid to win new clients and the price
of heroin in Sheffield has halved to make it the cheapest in the
UK.

The research also found that Ketamine, an anaesthetic drug most
commonly used by vets, is now a significant player in the UK drugs
market.

The survey of 15 UK cities found that the drug had edged its way
onto the list of major drug sales in more than half of those
cities.

“Ketamine has now established its place alongside the
usual dance scene drugs like ecstasy,” said a drugs worker in
Nottingham.
