Morris calls for investment in early years workers

Former education secretary Estelle Morris has called for increased investment in the pay and training of early years workers in recognition of the sector’s importance.

She made the comments at the formal launch of Skills for Care and Development, the UK-wide sector skills council for social care and children’s services.

Morris, chair of the Children’s Workforce Development Council, said: “If early years is as important as we believe, then these people need to be well-qualified, held in high esteem and financially well-rewarded.”

Skills for Care and Development formalises the existing alliance between Skills for Care, the Children’s Workforce Development Council, the Scottish Social Services Council, the Care Council for Wales and the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.
