Homeless families database ‘is safe’

The Association of London Government and the Greater London Authority have denied reports that a scheme to safeguard homeless children, launched in response to Victoria Climbie’s murder, is under threat.

The bodies also denied reports that a disagreement had occurred between them over the transfer of the running of the scheme, called Notify, from the GLA to the ALG from April 2007.

Notify, launched in response to the Laming report, is a cross-London database which lets social services track homeless families in temporary accommodation.

A GLA spokesperson admitted that, although the scheme was launched in May 2004, 13 of the 33 London boroughs were failing to put information on the database regularly.
