Proposals to improve older people’s services unveiled

The Department of Health yesterday announced plans to improve older people’s services over the next five years.

A report, published by the national director for older people, professor Ian Philp, outlines the second phase of the government’s 10-year National Service Framework for Older People

The plans include enhancing the role mental health nurses play in improving dignity in care for older people and relaunching the Older People’s Champion Network which has helped to address age discrimination in the NHS.

The report also aims to deliver best practice in end of life care for older people in hospital and to ensure dignity is central to the work of inspectorates and regulators.
