Eligibility deadlock stymies framework

Key issues remain to be settled over the eligibility threshold for continuing care in the government’s national framework, the Local Government Association has said.

A report to a meeting of its community well-being board yesterday (Wednesday) said questions remained over whether people who have been deemed eligible by the courts would receive fully funded care under the framework.

The higher the threshold, the more care councils and users will have to fund through the social services system, given that fewer people will be eligible for long-term care fully funded by the NHS.

However, the report said drafts of the framework had incorporated amendments proposed by the LGA and the Association of Directors of Social Services.
