Reprieve for charity information service

The National Centre for Independent Living’s information service has been saved but the organisation still needs to find more funding to pay its operating costs.

In February it issued redundancy notices to all of its staff while it waited on funding news (Disability group issues redundancy notices as it wrestles with cash crisis, 23 February).

It has just been told that it will receive section 64 funding from the Department of Health for 2006-7, allowing it to continue the information service.

However, other financial difficulties remain. Co-chair Menghi Mulchandani said the charity was undergoing a restructuring process but declined to reveal whether any jobs would be lost.
