LGA sets up commission to increase clout

The Local Government Association has set up a commission to find ways for it to increase its clout with Whitehall and improve councils’ public reputation, it announced today.

It will be chaired by Lord Best, the LGA’s president and include Gill Morgan, chief executive of the NHS Confederation.

The commission, which holds its first meeting next Friday (15 September), will look at how the LGA can strengthen its influence over government and involve councillors and council staff in national lobbying.
