Plans fail to consult disabled children

Councils’ children and young people’s plans are failing disabled children, according to research published at the conference.

Councils failed to involve or consult disabled children and their parents when drawing up threequarters of 20 plans studied by the Every Disabled Child Matters campaign.

But its report pointed out that regulations required local authorities to consult children, young people and parents, and guidance to local authorities had a specific focus on consulting disabled children.

Only a quarter of the plans included an analysis of the population of disabled children in the area.
