London councils get more money to meet costs of asylum

London’s boroughs have been given an extra £11.6m to meet asylum pressures, representative body London Councils announced today.

London Councils, formerly the Association of London Government, brokered a deal with the Home Office to secure the cash after arguing boroughs had been left £13.7m short in 2005-6.

All boroughs will receive a share, with Hackney, Hillingdon and Islington each receiving over £1m.
