Website publishes child sex offender details

The government’s agency for tackling online child sex abuse today launched a website with information on child sex offenders not complying with police notification arrangements.

Chief executive Jim Gamble said he wanted the public’s help in locating offenders who have sought to evade the authorities, but warned any vigilante action would be dealt with “robustly”.

Under the scheme, previous offences will not be disclosed and photos of offenders will only be published with the consent of the local police force.

Gamble said that offenders forfeited their right to anonymity by not complying with their duties to register and provide details of their whereabouts.
