Cannabis affects young people’s mental health and wellbeing

Half of young people using cannabis report having negative experiences as a result, such as paranoia, vomiting and fainting, research out yesterday finds.

The survey of young people by charity YoungMinds found over 80 per cent of respondents had tried cannabis and the vast majority had done so before they were eighteen.

The charity has also released new guidance for young people and professionals on the effects cannabis may have on mental health.

YoungMinds chief executive Barbara Herts said: “Young people, their parents and the professionals working with them need to understand the issues surrounding cannabis use and the potential dangers to their mental health and wellbeing.”
