TV’s Panorama alleges mistreatment at Halifax nursing homes

A BBC TV documentary will allege tonight that older people were mistreated at The Haven and Laurel Bank nursing homes in Halifax.

The BBC has reported that the Commission for Social Care Inspection has sought to close The Haven but the home remains open while its owners appeal. Panorama says that the CSCI believes Laurel Bank has “significantly improved”.

The National Care Association, which represents care homes, said elderly nursing home residents were protected from abuse as the CSCI has wide-ranging powers to tackle it.

The Panorama programme is be broadcast at 8.30pm.
