Crusade against Remploy factory closures rumbles through country

The month-long “crusade” against Remploy’s decision to close 43 factories, led by trade unions GMB and Unite, enters Yorkshire today, having started last Tuesday in Aberdeen.

Union activists are visiting all factories potentially affected by the closures, announced in May by the government-funded company, which both directly employs disabled people and supports them into work. The mobile demonstration will end at the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth on 24 September.

Activists have already visited factories in Scotland, North East England and the North West, and held a number of public meetings , addressed by supportive MPs.
