Youth Justice Board appoints first guns and gangs manager

Writes Maria Ahmed

The Youth Justice Board has appointed its first dedicated member of staff to develop a strategy on guns and gangs.

Andy Newsam has been seconded from Newham youth offending team in east London as serious group offending, guns and weapons strategy manager.

He is expected to develop an action plan for London and later extend this to Birmingham and Manchester.

Earlier this year, interim YJB chair Graham Robb met with the prime minister and professionals to consider ways of making young people and communities safer following a spate of shootings across the UK.
