John Webb has succeeded Kevin Miller as Wirral’s director of adult social services. Webb joined the authority from Halton Council three years ago as head of service for referral, assessment and care management where he has overseen improvements in the quality of service received by vulnerable people in Wirral.

Vale of Glamorgan Council has announced Phil Evans as its new director of social services. Evans began his social work career in 1973, specialising in direct work with children. He currently works at the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales. He will take up his new post in January 2008.

Former Bethnal Green and Bow MP Oona King has been appointed as a political adviser to Gordon Brown. Her remit is to spearhead the prime minister’s campaign to re-engage people with politics and community issues, with a focus on generating ideas to involve young people.

Ian Robertson has become chair of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. Robertson recently retired as managing director of corporate banking at HBOS. He has been involved with the Princess Royal Trust for Carers for a number of years, principally in a fundraising capacity.
