A General Social Care Council conduct committee has struck an Oxfordshire social worker of the register after hearing how he had harassed a couple for a year.
Geoffrey Casey, a social worker for 22 years and from Witney, Oxfordshire, contacted social services and the NSPCC anonymously to report Mr and Mrs A for child abuse and called Crimestoppers claiming Mr A was in possession of stolen work tools between May 2004 and May 2005.
Giving evidence, Mrs A had told the committee that her “whole world fell apart” as a result of the malicious allegations made by Casey.
Following the three-day hearing in London, the committee took into account the “serious nature” and number of unsubtantiated allegations made over a period of time and the agencies involved. It concluded there was no clear evidence that Casey, who did not attend the hearing, had shown insight or remorse.
