Stop drugging dementia patients, urges report


Ministers should step in to stop inappropriate prescriptions of powerful antipsychotic drugs for Alzheimer’s patients, an influential group of MPs said today.

Up to 105,000 people with dementia in Britain are wrongly being treated with the drugs, which are used to control behavioural symptoms such as aggression, they claim.

Children ‘put at risk by higher court fees’

Vulnerable children face a greater risk of harm because of a dramatic rise in the cost of taking them into care, ministers have been warned.

Fees for care proceedings are to leap next month from £150 to £4,000 per case — a jump of 2,500 per cent — as the courts are made to pay for themselves.
