in Control: Personal budget users to get online information source

Personalisation social enterprise in Control is to launch an online one-stop shop to help service users employing personal budgets manage their care needs.

Users will enter the site, Shop 4 Support, through their own secure area, in which they can view and manage their budget, book services and access information on topics such as equipment, home care, local services and budget management.

There will also be a forum for exchanging tips and advice, as well as an area where users can rate service providers on quality of service and cost.

Single source of information

Simon Duffy, in Control chief executive, said: “Previously, service users have had to go to a number of different sources of information. But by putting everything in one place, we’re making it easier for people to access the help they need and we hope this will encourage even more service users to take control of their support.

“Furthermore, Shop 4 Support will enable greater efficiency in the exchange of needs and services on a local, regional and national level. It will also provide a vital means for local authorities to reform their systems for the delivery of social care, in line with the personalisation agenda.”

Shop 4 Support, which has been developed in collaboration with e-procurement company Valueworks, is being unveiled at in Control conference in Manchester on September 8. An in Control spokesperson said the organisation wanted to work with councils and service providers before the website goes live later this year, following a series of pilots.
