Tender for the provision of a breaks for carers service

New AssetThe London Borough of Merton invites tendersfrom suitably qualified and experiencedorganisations who wish to provide a Breaks ForCarers Service for adults.

The primary purpose of the service is to:

  • Give carers a break from caring, reduce isolation and enhance the health, wellbeing and quality of life of carers and those cared for. To assist them in theircaring role, balance commitments and maintain a life outside of caring.
  • To plan and provide breaks services in partnership with the carer and cared for,empowering the cared for to be involved in the development of anyactivities provided.
  • Treat people as individuals and promote their dignity, independence,empowerment and social inclusion. Acknowledge and respect gender, sexualorientation, age, ability, race, religion, culture, and lifestyle.
  • The Service provider will need to demonstrate they can deliver high qualityservices with measurable outcomes.
  • The council is introducing Individual Budgets over the next two years. ProspectiveTenderers will need to demonstrate the ability to deliver high quality, innovative andeffective support services together with an understanding of the potential impact ofIndividualised budgets on service delivery in their submissions.

    The Contract will be awarded for an initial period of three years, with the option toextend (exercisable at the Council’s sole discretion), by two further increments ofone year (making a potential Contract Period of up to five years). It is anticipatedthat the Contract will commence on 6 April 2009.

    Organisations tendering should note that the Transfer of Undertakings (Protectionof Employment) Regulations 2006 may apply.
