The London Borough of Lambeth invites expressions of interest for the provision of BA and MA trainee social care programmes

The London Borough of Lambeth wishes to offer an opportunity for a Higher Education Institution (HEI), with a track record of deliveringqualifications for Trainee Social Workers or similar provisions, toprovide a BA and MA Trainee Social Work programme.

The programmes will enable suitably skilled staff from our ownworkforce, as well as graduates from outside the council to becometrained and qualified Social Workers.

Lambeth Council is the key agent in the delivery of a vast range ofservices to its 265,000 citizens. The borough’s diversity is reflected inthe 150 languages spoken within its boundaries and in the fact that60% of its residents are not of UK origin.

It is anticipated that the contract will run for an initial period of fiveyears commencing 01 July 2009 (comprising of three annualintakes), with an option to extend for up to an additional two years.

The successful HEI will need to demonstrate the following:

  • a clear vision and experience of delivering social work training thatembraces and promotes the personalising care agenda in PuttingPeople First
  • evidence of the involvement of service users as experts byexperience in the delivery of programmes
  • the ability to work in collaboration with local NHS partners and thethird sector, in particular through supporting statutory and nonstatutoryplacements
  • proven innovation in the way it supports and develops practiceassessors in line with the General Social Care Council’s EnablingOthers module
  • experience of developing locally-based centres of excellence to carryout research jointly with the Council to address emerging trends
  • flexibility to offer bespoke training modules for social care staff
  • located within one hour commuting distance of Lambeth, such asLondon or surrounding areas.
