Warrington social worker invited clients to her home

Former Warrington Council social worker Venetia Tsiaka was wrong to invite a mother and family to her home to conclude a formal meeting, an independent General Social Care Council committee has found.

Tsiaka was issued with a three-year admonishment, which means a caution is put alongside her name on the public register of social workers.

Tsiaka, who has returned to her native Greece since the allegations were made in March 2006, invited a child, her sister and her mother to her home to continue a meeting after the original venue had closed.

The committee said this had placed Tsiaka and her clients in a vulnerable position and breached the social work code of practice on safe working.

However, Tsiaka, who did not attend the hearing, was cleared of allegations that she had inappropriate physical contact with the child.

The committee was told there was never any suggestion this was of a sexual nature.
