LGA chief leaves to head Social Work Task Force unit

The Local Government Association’s adult social care chief, Anne McDonald, has been appointed to become the lead civil servant for the Social Work Task Force.

McDonald, who joined the LGA two years ago as programme director for community well-being on secondment from the Department of Health, has been appointed as head of the DH and Department for Children, Schools and Families’ joint social work unit.

McDonald’s role at the LGA, which involves responsibility for adult social care and public health, will be covered on an interim basis when she leaves next month. The association is considering whether it wants to retain the position in its current form.

The joint social work unit includes civil servants from the DH and DCSF and secondees from organisations including the General Social Care Council. It will continue beyond the lifespan of the task force, which will produce its final report this October.
