Ambition makes everything possible

A feature sponsored by the London Borough of Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest is an ambitious borough.

For both our existing practitioners and new joiners, we want this to be a place where you can make your mark, develop your career and improve the lives of adults, children and their families.

This website has been created to show just how ambitious we are. We hope you visit it today and leave it feeling enlightened, impressed and inspired to join us and help realise our hopes and dreams for those living in our borough. If you want to be part of a supportive, challenging and inspirational team, striving towards the shared purpose of achieving independence, choice and the best possible results for our service users, your ambition should be to join us.

We’re on a mission to change. As one of our social workers says: “It is a very exciting time in Waltham Forest. Our vision is to improve the standards of social work practice in our organisation and there is a commitment to provide the support and leadership needed”.

About Us

Waltham Forest’s families directorate is a forward-thinking, visionary place to work. We are extremely ambitious and have developed a strong vision for the future. Right now we want to push ahead to the next level, striving for excellence while building on the progress we’ve already made.

Our ambitions reflect the council’s plans for the borough as a whole. Following the 2012 Olympics there are a lot of exciting developments in Waltham Forest. Our ‘Creating a Better Place’ agenda will see £160 million worth of regeneration in 2013 alone.

The council’s mission is to protect and improve our assets while actively looking at ways we can regenerate brownfield sites, improve our housing stock and enhance our town centres. With the help of partner agencies, the street scene is being revamped, parks are being restored and leisure facilities upgraded.

So, how are we going to achieve our ambitions for our families directorate? Firstly, we’re investing to raise standards. Already our children’s and adults’ social services have been brought together under our families directorate. While we remain two distinct services, we are working together as a cohesive, collaborative and supportive team.

Our people receive relevant, high quality training, leading to tangible development opportunities. On top of this, we are continuing to make improvements to the IT infrastructure to enable social workers to focus on the task of social work.

Our ambitions have received exceptional corporate support from the wider council. We are relentlessly focused on improving outcomes for vulnerable adults, children and families, who are at the heart of everything we do.

Our aim is to employ high calibre social work professionals to join our workforce and embark on the journey towards excellence with us. It is going to be challenging, exciting and rewarding. If you are up for this challenge, join us.
