Care Council launches app and online training to enhance care worker knowledge

Safeguarding quiz app and supervision course created to help care workers and managers improve their skills

The Care Council for Wales has launched an app and an online training course to help social care workers and managers hone their knowledge.

The free smartphone and tablet app, Safeguarding – Test Your Knowledge, seeks to help staff and volunteers in both adult and children’s care services check their safeguarding know-how.

The app is available for Android and Apple phones and tablet devices.

Sioned Williams, senior workforce development manager at the Care Council, said the app will raise awareness of basic safeguarding practice.

“It has a refresher section about key concepts and a quiz to test understanding of safeguarding,” she said.

“So, once someone has completed safeguarding training, the quiz helps them test their ability to apply concepts in practice. The app is a great way to support knowledge and understanding.”

The Care Council has also produced Effective Supervision in Social Care, an e-learning training package for new and aspiring social care managers that aims to help them effectively supervise staff.

It includes audio and video case studies and aims to develop people’s understanding of performance management, supervision, appraisal and evaluation.

Roberta Hayes, director of learning and development at the Care Council, said: “Effective supervision is essential in promoting a culture of learning within organisations, encouraging reflective practice and learning from experience as well as guiding the development of knowledge, skills and values.”
