The national adoption register found placements for 40 per cent more children in the year to November 2006 compared with the previous year.
Figures released this week by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering reveal that 157 children were placed as a result of the register. The number of children referred to the register rose by 4 per cent to 1,520 and referrals of prospective adopters increased by 10 per cent to 1,250.
The register matches children who are more difficult to place locally with adoptive families from outside their geographical area. Baaf took over the running of the register from Norwood in December 2004.
