Sheffield Council should award compensation in two cases where it failed to make adaptations to homes of disabled people, the local government ombudsman has ruled.

In one case, the complainant was forced to wait more than two years for adaptations to their home.

The ombudsman found the problem was due to shortage of resources and that the individuals were not unfairly treated in comparison with others. 'The remedy is for the council to satisfy me that it will do all it can to eliminate delays,' she said.

She found maladministration and recommended the council pay a small sum to each complainant.
