Baby P’s stepfather has been found guilty at the Old Bailey of abuse against a two-year-old girl.

Baby P’s mother was found not guilty of cruelty to the same child, in a case subject to a media blackout until today.

The jury was not told the true identity of the defendants in the case – they were given false surnames so they could not be connected with Baby P.

The girl in the case is the youngest child to ever give evidence in a British court. She was on Haringey Council’s at-risk register at the time of the abuse.

The girl’s foster carer raised concerns that she might have been abused.

Baby P’s stepfather was one of two men convicted last November of causing or allowing the death of the boy in August 2007.
