A mother and a man have been arrested in connection with the death of the woman's 21-month-old son.

The boy died at his home in Bexleyheath, south east London, on 29 December. Police launched a murder inquiry after a post-mortem examination revealed he had suffered multiple injuries.

A spokesperson for Bexley Council said the boy was not on the council’s child protection register, nor was he known to children’s services.

Suspects bailed

The boy’s mother, 29, and the man, 24, believed to be the woman’s boyfriend, were arrested on 29 December and bailed.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said they were re-arrested on New Year’s Eve and bailed to return to a police station in south London in February.
