A pilot scheme providing providing first-time teenage mothers with regular home visits from family nurses is expanding with £30 million added funding from the Department of Health.
The Family Nurse Partnership, based on a US model, is currently being tested in 10 areas in England where nurses visit parents from early pregnancy until the child is two years old.
The scheme was introduced as part of the government's social exclusion action plan published last year.
