Abused couple lose £100,000 damages
A vulnerable couple who were subjected to savage abuse by a gang of youths have been stripped of their £100,000 damages payout by senior judges.
Britain’s most senior civil judge held that despite the appalling suffering inflicted on the couple by the four youths, Hounslow Council could not be blamed for what happened.

Dignitas demands suicide on demand for the healthy
The head of the Dignitas euthanasia clinic in Switzerland declared yesterday that he believed assisted suicide should be available 'on demand'.
Ludwig Minelli, whose organisation has supervised the deaths of 100 Britons, said suicide was not just for those already dying but 'a marvellous possibility given to a human being'.

Hygiene safety tests failed by 21 NHS trusts
Twenty-one NHS trusts failed yesterday to pass the hygiene test that was set by the health watchdog for England to establish whether they can be registered as safe to treat patients.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC), which took over this week as the "super-regulator" for health and social care, said the trusts may be fined or forced to close wards or departments if they do not quickly improve.
