A Broadmoor Hospital nurse has been awarded £21,500 compensation after she was assaulted twice by a patient.
Lucia Johnson was awarded the cash by West London Mental Health NHS Trust following attacks in December 2002 and July 2003 by a patient who was known to have a tendency to throw objects at people.
Her nose and hand were injured in the first assault and in the second attack she was punched on the chin and shoulder after she and three colleagues entered the patient's room while he was trying to kill himself. Johnson then had several months off work.
"He was often violent but in spite of complaints made by staff he was not removed to a more secure unit where more members of staff would have been available to supervise or medicate him," she said.
Eddie Jaggers, regional officer for Unison, which represented Johnson, said: "Although searches had been regularly carried out in his room, the appropriate action was not taken. We are therefore very pleased with the compensation secured."
