Hazel Blears resigns from the Cabinet

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears is to resign from the Cabinet.

She announced the news today on the eve of crunch European and local elections but had already been tipped for the axe in a reshuffle expected within the next few days.

Man in Khyra Ishaq trial admits child cruelty

A man accused of starving his partner's daughter to death pleaded guilty to five counts of child cruelty today. Junaid Abuhamza, 30, who denies the murder of seven-year-old Khyra Ishaq, admitted cruelty charges relating to five other children during the hearing at Birmingham crown court.

Disabled lad killed by yobs

A DISABLED lad fled a rough area with his family for a better life - only to die after he was attacked by thugs.

Autistic David Cox, 18, who had a mental age of eight, was punched to the ground in front of his sister Carrie-Anne, 17, and her boyfriend, 19.

He was left brain dead and doctors advised the family to switch off his life support on Tuesday.
