The charity Mencap is to lauch a manifesto that aims to give it a more “confident and strident voice” in its campaigning work for the equal rights of children and adults with learning disabilities.
The manifesto, which sets out to give all people with learning disabilities the right to an ordinary life, will launch on 21 April.
Inclusive and modern
Sam Heath, Mencap’s press and PR manager, also described the new Mencap identity and website as “more inclusive and modern” in order to appeal to the 1.5m people with learning disabilities, and carers and professionals.
“We'll continue to develop our policy of putting people with a learning disability at the centre of everything we do, not only do they already have a bigger say in our democratic structure, but we are making sure they are at the centre of all campaigning, media work and communications,” added Heath.
