More than three-quarters of London homelessness services deal with people from the European Union’s latest accession states, research published today reveals.

A survey  by Homeless Link of 43 agencies, in March this year, found people from the A8 countries, which include Poland and Hungary, represented half of clients in some projects and over one in seven of all users.

Half were sleeping rough and 27 per cent were living in squats.

People from the A8 countries have been eligible to come to Britain to work since 2004, when they joined the EU.
