Social Care Institute for Excellence chief executive Julie Jones was awarded the social care personality of the year award at this year’s national home care awards.
Jones received the award from Ruby Wax at the annual event, organised by home care professional association Ceretas.
The judges were particularly impressed with Jones’s involvement in the establishment of the National Skills Academy for Social Care, set up this year to promote skills development in adult social care.
Jones 'instrumental'
Ceretas chair Mary Bryce said that Jones had been instrumental in the academy’s development and that she felt the project had a lot of potential to dramatically advance the social care workforce.
Jones said the award was a tribute to all the hard working staff at the institute and said: “Home care isn’t always the highest profile section of social care. It’s vital that awards like these celebrate the valuable contribution made by the many talented and dedicated people who work in home care.”
Home care worker of the year was Debbie Thacker of Somerset Care, whose contribution to the sector was described by the panel as "quite outstanding".
