Parenting Assessment Unit – Residential Parent & Baby Unit

Welcare have six residential placements available to women identified as in need of a parenting assessment.

Welcare managers are qualified and registered social workers, who have extensive experience in Children’s Services supported by a team of skilled and experienced staff. Welcare do not employ agency staff.

Welcare has a designated health visitor who visits on a regular basis. The assessment broadly follows The Framework for Assessment of Children in Need and their Families, incorporating any specific instructions from parties involved.

The final assessment will be compiled by one of the two social workers and will include recommendations to assist in the decision making process.

Principles of Care

Welcare can facilitate regular review meetings between Local Authority, parent, and staff. A detailed report is provided for the review.

We believe parents should be given the opportunity to have their existing skills in parenting encouraged, maintained and developed.

Welcare is committed to working in an open and honest way with parents throughout their assessment. Our aim is to give parents the opportunity to realise their vulnerabilities and work towards positive and sustainable change in non threatening surroundings.
