A serious case review into the suspicious death of a 17-month-old baby has been launched, Haringey social services has confirmed.

The boy, who reportedly suffered injuries including a broken spine and fractured ribs, died shortly after being taken to North Middlesex Hospital by his mother on 3 August.

She was arrested after hospital staff raised concerns, and a 31-year-old man was also later arrested. Both have been bailed to return later this month, following enquiries.

Councillor Liz Santry, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “We are very sad about the tragic death of this little boy.”
