The government has launched a consultation on how to apply the Forced Marriage Act 2007.
The consultation is a bid to help decide which people and organisations can apply to the courts for safeguards to stop forced marriages when the victim has not done so.
Justice secretary Bridget Prentice said: “When you look at the situations some of the people affected by forced marriages will be in, it's clear that not all of them will be able to apply personally to the courts for protection. Where this happens we want to make sure that other people or organisations can step in on their behalf.”
The legislation, which is coming into force next autumn, is designed to give courts a range of civil remedies to stop those who are trying to force a marriage.
