The long-awaited workforce ban on people who have harmed vulnerable adults will be introduced in June, the government announced last week.

Care providers will not be able to employ people on the protection of vulnerable adults list once the government's crackdown on the abuse of older people in care homes and domiciliary care settings comes into being.

People who know that their names are on the protection of vulnerable adults list who try to get employment in any care home or domiciliary setting will also face criminal charges and a possible prison sentence.

Launching a consultation on draft guidance to help care providers implement the list, community care minister Stephen Ladyman said: "There will be no hiding place in the care system for people who abuse or mistreat vulnerable adults."
