The Department of Health has selected disabled children for the first time as a priority for service improvement in the NHS.
The move came last week in the NHS Operating Framework, which sets out priorities for all NHS bodies in England for 2008.
But Steve Broach, campaign manager for Every Disabled Child Matters, said that extra funding was still needed to improve health services and to deliver healthcare equality for disabled children.
Broach said: “Health services matter just as much to families with disabled children as services provided by education and social care.”
The Every Disabled Child Matters campaign is calling for the DH to “commit specific funding”, which was promised in the paper Aiming High for Disabled Children published in May.
