Scotland's first campaigning group for people with AIDS, Scottish AIDS Monitor, has closed after failing to secure funding from local authorities and health boards.
Seven workers in Lothian, two in Tayside and one in the national office in Edinburgh have been made redundant.
SAM, set up 12 years ago, was forced to close its offices in Glasgow and Inverness last year after Strathclyde Region and Greater Glasgow Health Board withdrew their support.
The final decision to close came after negotiations with Lothian Region and Lothian Health Board failed to win assurances on funding.
'We asked the Scottish Office and the health boards for a rescue package but no commitment has been forthcoming,' said a spokesperson.
