A residential care home for people with learning difficulties was in a state of "anarchy" with two managers at "war" while residents had to endure urine and faeces-soiled carpets, a health trust report reveals.
The Limes Home in Wilstead, near Bedford, was closed last year after health trust managers identified a series of serious problems in the way it was run.
An internal report published last month by Bedfordshire and Luton Community NHS Trust, which ran the home, describes how the manager and deputy manager were at "war" with each other, and the remaining staff were in a state of "anarchy".
Some residents had very few clothes and personal items and their general health was poor said the report. Basic records were not kept on the health and behaviour of the residents.
A trust spokesperson said "swift action" to close and refurbish the home was taken once they learned of the situation. Three staff were disciplined, and have appealed against that action. The trust is now trying to recruit and train staff for the home to be reopened.
