The new head of the government's Bed and Breakfast Unit has pledged to work with councils, housing associations and relevant agencies to reduce the numbers of people in bed and breakfasts.
Speaking to Community Care on his first day in the job this week, Ashley Horsey said: "The aim of the unit is to deliver the government manifesto commitment to reduce the use of bed and breakfast accommodation. I don't think you will find anyone out there that says the current numbers of households in B&Bs is acceptable or is good."
The unit has not yet set a target by which it wants to reduce numbers. "It would be completely wrong of me to come in on day one and say to local authorities and the housing world 'I know what the results [should be],'" said Horsey.
